Better Voice

Privacy Policy

Effective September 27, 2026 · Ad Prospera, Inc.

The short version. Better Voice is one daily speaking question. You record about a minute to the front camera and watch it back. After a take, the app sends your speaking metrics and a short transcript excerpt to our backend to produce Pete's notes. An account holds your sign-in identity, your onboarding answers and your membership status. We do not sell your data or run ads.

This policy covers the Better Voice app for iPhone and iPad and bettervoice.org. The publisher and data controller is Ad Prospera, Inc., a Delaware corporation.

1. Your account

An account is required before your first recording in the app and to use bettervoice.org/start. We use Clerk for sign-in with Apple or Google and receive your account identifier and the name and email address supplied by your sign-in provider, including an Apple private relay address if you choose one. See Clerk's privacy policy.

With your account we store your onboarding answers (your name, goal, focus, situations and occasion), your membership status, your account role and, if you ask for it, the email address for a one-time notification when the app launches. Accounts are stored in Convex; see Convex's privacy policy.

If you contact support, we also receive the information you choose to include in your message.

2. Your takes

Your device stores your recordings, transcripts, metrics, Pete's notes and your streak. They are not synced to your account or to another device. Deleting the app removes them. A video you export to Photos or another app stays where you put it. The one exception is the audio of a take, which is uploaded once to be transcribed while you are signed in; section 3 describes that.

Daily reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing about them leaves it.

The streak widget and Siri

The Home Screen and Lock Screen widget reads a small streak snapshot stored in an on-device shared container. Siri and Shortcuts actions open the challenge or your statistics in the app.

3. Camera, microphone and Pete's notes

Camera and microphone access are both required to record a take; a Practice conversation needs only the microphone, and the camera only if you choose to record it. Both are requested when you first need them, and you can withdraw them at any time in iOS Settings.

Speech recognition and the speaking metrics run on the device while you speak.

After a take, while you are signed in, the app uploads the audio of that take to our backend storage on Cloudflare R2 and transcribes it through OpenRouter with a speech-to-text model, so Pete's notes can quote what you actually said. The audio is deleted from our storage within 24 hours and is not used for anything else. If the upload fails, the on-device transcript is used instead.

The app then sends the following to our backend on Convex, which passes it through OpenRouter to the model provider that writes Pete's notes:

  • the speaking metrics: pace, filler word count, pitch and durations;
  • the day's question and the day number;
  • the transcript of the take;
  • the numbers from your previous take.

These requests are keyed by a random per-install identifier and your account identifier. If the request fails or the device is offline, the app writes the notes locally. See the OpenRouter privacy policy.

In Practice, an optional live conversation with Pete, your microphone audio is streamed while you talk through our gateway on Cloudflare Workers to OpenAI, which generates Pete's voice and feedback and does not use it to train its models; we keep no audio or full transcript of the conversation on our servers, only its timing, the minutes used and your coaching progress on your account until you delete it, while the transcript, highlights and any video you choose to record stay on your device. Your coaching progress includes short quotes of what you said, up to 200 characters each. See the OpenAI privacy policy.

4. Sharing a take

The share video is rendered on your device. Choosing a destination such as Photos or another app exports it there; that destination's handling is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.

5. Subscriptions

In the app, Apple bills through the App Store and we do not receive your payment card details. Superwall verifies subscription access using purchase information, app and device details, and your account identifier. On the website, when web checkout is available, RevenueCat Web Billing bills through Stripe and receives the payment details you enter at checkout. See the Superwall privacy policy, the RevenueCat privacy policy and the Stripe privacy policy.

6. Product analytics

We use PostHog in the app and on the website to understand how Better Voice is used in aggregate: which screens people reach, where onboarding loses them, whether a release broke something.

  • We send a fixed list of product events, for example that a take started or finished, that the paywall was shown, or that a reminder was set.
  • Session replay is off. We do not record your screen.
  • Before you sign in, events are keyed by a random installation identifier stored in the device keychain, which survives reinstalling the app; afterwards they are identified by your account identifier. Events carry technical context such as app version, iOS version, device model, and an approximate country derived from the IP address of the request.
  • No audio, video, transcripts, names or email addresses go to analytics.

See the PostHog privacy policy.

7. What we never do

  • We do not sell or share your personal information for money or for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used under California law.
  • We do not serve advertising in Better Voice.
  • We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and Better Voice does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission because it has no reason to.
  • We do not use your recordings, videos or transcripts to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.
  • We do not build advertising profiles, and we have no data broker relationships.

9. Keeping and deleting data

  • Takes and streak: stored only on your device until you delete the app.
  • Pete's notes requests: the uploaded audio is deleted within 24 hours; the metrics and transcript are used to write the notes and are not kept as a history of your takes.
  • Account: your sign-in identity, onboarding answers, membership status, role and launch email are kept until you delete the account.
  • Deleting your account: use Settings → Account → Delete account in the app, or bettervoice.org/account. This queues deletion of your account record and your Clerk sign-in. It does not cancel a subscription; cancel that separately through Apple or from your account page.
  • Other service records: purchase, support, analytics and provider processing records follow their applicable retention requirements. Contact us for access or deletion requests concerning those records.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a data protection authority.

You can delete your account in the app's Settings or on your account page. For other requests, contact support@bettervoice.org using your account email where possible so we can identify the relevant records.

11. Children

Better Voice is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, write to support@bettervoice.org and we will delete it.

12. Where data is processed

Ad Prospera is based in the United States, and our providers (Clerk, Convex, OpenRouter, OpenAI, Cloudflare, Superwall, RevenueCat, Stripe and PostHog) may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. If you use Better Voice outside those locations, the data described above may be transferred internationally. Where required, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent transfer mechanism in our agreements with those providers.

13. Changes

If we change how Better Voice handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top. For material changes, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.

14. Contact

Privacy questions go to support@bettervoice.org. A person reads it.
